Cota

Loudness metering, but beautiful.

ITU-R BS.1770 · stereo to 9.1.6 · plugin + standalone

Cota is in Early Access

Cota is currently in beta. Features, pricing and platform support described here may change before the full release. Want in? Apply for the beta on the Cota site.

What is Cota?

Cota is a reference-grade loudness and spatial audio analyser, built to the ITU-R BS.1770 standard and covering everything from stereo (2.0) up to 9.1.6. It's the rebuilt successor to Orbit Loudness Meter — the same measurement rigour, in a faster, cross-platform, and frankly much more beautiful package.

Cota ships three ways from one engine:

  • A plugin — CLAP everywhere, VST3 everywhere, and AU on macOS — so it drops into Reaper, Logic, Ableton, Nuendo, Pro Tools, or wherever you work.
  • A standalone app — meter a WAV file or live audio input without opening a DAW.
  • A remote view — mirror the full UI to any phone, tablet or browser on your network. Any screen becomes a monitoring station.

Measured, not claimed

Cota is built to be brutally accurate, and it sits comfortably inside published EBU R128 / ITU-R BS.1770 tolerance. It's the same loudness implementation Orbit itself uses — see Loudness, powered by Cota.

Cota and Cota Lite

There are two editions from a single build — no forks, no crippled engine:

  • Cota — the paid edition. Everything: the Gauge, the Dashboard, the 3D Spatial view, spectral analysis, remote view and report export.
  • Cota Lite — free. Gauge metering with the identical BS.1770 engine. Metering is never gated.

See Cota vs Cota Lite for the full breakdown.
