What's New in v1.3.1

5.1 Re-render Loudness

Orbit now measures loudness on a Dolby-compatible 5.1 re-render alongside the native 7.1.4 measurement. The 7.1.4 speaker feed is folded down to 5.1 using an ITU-R BS.2127 downmix, and loudness is measured on the resulting 5.1 signal — matching the workflow used by the Dolby Atmos Renderer.

The multichannel loudness panel in the sidebar lets you switch between "7.1.4" (all 12 channels) and "5.1 Re-render" views. Both integrated LUFS, true peak, and Loudness Range (LRA) are reported.

Per-component loudness is also available: bed-only and object-only integrated LUFS are computed separately, helping identify which elements are driving the overall loudness.

Height Channel Weight Toggle

A new "Height Weights" option appears in the loudness panel when viewing 7.1.4 measurements:

  • All +1.5 dB (default) — All four height channels (Ltf, Rtf, Ltb, Rtb) are weighted at +1.5 dB (×1.41), treating them as non-front surround channels.
  • BS.1770-4 — Front heights (Ltf, Rtf) are weighted at 1.0 (front), rear heights (Ltb, Rtb) remain at +1.5 dB. This follows a strict interpretation of BS.1770-4 where front-elevated speakers are classified as front channels.

Changing the mode resets the integrated loudness meter. The setting is persisted between sessions.

LBAP Panning Mode

A new panning mode matches the Dolby Atmos Renderer's behaviour for ambiguous object positions:

  • Origin (0,0,0): Panned to side surrounds (Ls/Rs) instead of front centre
  • Overhead (0,0,1): Distributed across all four height speakers instead of interpolating from the front pair

LBAP is now the default panning mode. The previous VBAP mode remains available in Settings.

BS.2127 Extent Rendering

Object width/extent is now rendered using 27-point MDAP (Multiple Direction Amplitude Panning) sampling per ITU-R BS.2127. This replaces the previous single-point approximation and produces more accurate spatial spread for objects with non-zero width.

PDF Report Improvements

  • Spatial rendering options (panning mode and bed routing mode) are now shown in the Measured Loudness section
  • The re-render disclaimer has been expanded for height-based content, clarifying that 5.1 measurements use Orbit's own renderer
  • Object width is now labelled "Size (Width)" for clarity

Fixes

  • Fixed a macOS Gatekeeper warning dialog that appeared on first launch due to a stale entitlement
