Known Issues

Aro is in beta. These are the things to know about in the current build.

  • Projection is strict. It needs (order + 1)² speakers and some above ear level, and works up to 3rd order. So it's off for 3rd-order files on 7.1.4 and 9.1.6. Use AllRAD there.
  • Plain stereo files can't be opened. "What is this file?" explains what to pick instead. If the file is a Mid-Side recording, choose Mid-Side.
  • A speaker-layout file can clip at 16 or 24 bit when Limit true peak is off, and Aro doesn't warn you. Turn it on to hold the ceiling. Orbit Binaural files have their own limiter.
  • The live stereo monitor is a fold of the speaker layout, so it differs by a few dB from a decode to the Stereo layout.
  • True peak after sample-rate conversion can land a hair over the ceiling (about 0.015 dB), because the limiter runs before the conversion.
  • Changing the format reads the file again; playback resumes after a short gap.
  • The update notice can cover the top of the stage until you dismiss it.

Not in this beta

These are shown in the app, switched off, with the reason:

  • Your own HRTF (SOFA file) for Orbit Binaural.
  • A-format correction for capsule spacing, and per-microphone calibration.
  • Correction and a Mid pattern other than cardioid on the converter stage.

Also not yet available:

  • Mid-Side and A-format recordings in Batch.
  • Decoding several batch files at the same time.
  • Combining higher-order Ambisonics from separate files (first order only).
