ADM to IAMF Exporting

Still being written

We're adding content daily — please bear with us.

Orbit Pro can encode a loaded ADM file to IAMF — the format YouTube streams as Eclipsa Audio. For background on the format, see IAMF Basics.

Opening the export

Load an ADM file, then choose File → Export as IAMF/Eclipsa Audio… (⌘R).

  • The menu item appears only with a Pro licence.
  • It is disabled when the loaded file is already IAMF — re-exporting IAMF to IAMF isn't supported.

While Orbit analyses the mix you'll see Analysing your mix…; the graph appears once the plan is ready.

Templates

Four template cards at the top set the export up for a destination:

TemplateCardWhat it sets
YouTubeBase profile · max compatibilityBase profile, Opus at the Streaming rate (48 kbps per channel). The bed is rendered to a single 7.1.4 Channel-Based element and all objects are folded into a first-order (1OA) Scene-Based element, which fits Base's two-element limit. Exports to MP4 when the session has video, otherwise .iamf. No stereo compatibility track.
EsferaBase-Enhanced · web · binauralBase-Enhanced profile, Opus at the Studio rate (96 kbps per channel), for Esfera.
Full MasterLossless · keep everythingA lossless, keep-everything export.
CustomFull manual controlEvery setting is yours. Once you edit a template's settings, the Custom card shows Based on and the template you started from.

For a YouTube upload, start from the YouTube template — see Eclipsa Audio on YouTube.

Export settings

SettingOptions
CodecOpus, AAC-LC, FLAC or LPCM. AAC-LC can't be exported in this release — the Export button stays disabled with the message "AAC-LC export is not yet supported — it produces silent audio."
QualityStreaming (48 kbps per channel), Studio (96 kbps per channel) or Archive (128 kbps per channel). Applies to the lossy codecs only; FLAC and LPCM are lossless.
Container.iamf (raw IAMF) or .mp4.
ProfileSimple (1 element, 16 channels), Base (2 elements, 18 channels) or Base-Enhanced (28 elements, 28 channels).
Loudness LayoutsThe highest loudspeaker layout the file declares loudness for. Stereo is always included. This doesn't change the encoded audio.
Scalable layersPacks the mix at several layout sizes in one file, so each player streams the largest one it supports. Smaller layers must fit inside larger ones; incompatible layers are greyed out.
LoudnessMeasure at export — measures each layout's loudness during export and writes it into the Mix Presentations.
Rangefull or selection. For a selection, set a region first with the I / O keys.
VideoInclude video (needs the .mp4 container — ticking it switches to MP4), with Codec (HEVC / H.264), Quality (High / Medium) and Resolution (Auto / 4K / 1080p / 720p). Shown as VIDEO · NONE IN PROJECT when the session has no video.
Compatibility.mp4 only. Stereo track adds a standard stereo track so the file plays in most players; IAMF-aware players still use the immersive mix. On by default — untick it for a YouTube upload.

The routing graph

Below the settings, a graph shows how the ADM sources route into IAMF Audio Elements and Mix Presentations:

  • + Element adds a Channel-Based (Stereo, 5.1, 7.1.4), Scene-Based (1OA, 2OA, 3OA) or Object-Based (Mono) element.
  • + Mix Presentation adds a Mix Presentation. Each one can be renamed, given a language, and given its own set of elements. Use Listen on a presentation to monitor it.
  • Reset Graph returns routing, groups and removed sources to the recommendation, after a confirmation. Graph edits can be undone (⌘Z) and redone (⇧⌘Z).

A summary beside the graph counts the Mix Presentations and render targets, and shows element and channel budget bars for the chosen profile. If the graph exceeds the profile's budget, export is blocked until you raise the profile or route fewer elements.

Exporting

Click Export IAMF. If any ADM sources are unrouted, Orbit warns that they won't be exported and asks you to confirm with Export anyway. When objects are folded into the bed, the footer shows how many.

After exporting, open the file in Orbit or Orbit Lite to check it, and see Check a file for IAMF in the terminal to confirm what's inside.
