Requirements

Orbit runs on modern macOS systems and is designed for fast, reliable playback. Here's what you need to get started.

System requirements

  • macOS 14 or later (Apple Silicon only).
  • A compatible audio output device.
  • Optional: AirPods Pro or AirPods Max for head tracking (Orbit uses the head tracking data, not Apple Spatial Audio), or any headphones with optional camera-based tracking (requires camera access).
  • Internet connection: Trial licenses need to reconnect every 24 hours; paid licenses work offline for up to 30 days.

File requirements

  • ADM BWF files (.wav) with valid ADM metadata.
  • IAMF files up to the V2 draft spec, as raw .iamf streams or IAMF in .mp4.
  • An immersive speaker layout for full-room validation. We support any layout that can be defined in OSLS — or one of the blessed layouts.
  • High-quality headphones for binaural checks.
  • Allow Orbit to write .orbwave cache files next to your ADM for faster reopen times.

INFO

Playback and analysis stay local to your machine. Network access is used for account sign-in, license validation (daily for trial; paid licenses refresh automatically when online and work offline for up to 30 days), optional update checks, and optional usage data you can turn off in Preferences ▸ Privacy. Your audio files are never uploaded.
