Exporting
Orbit can export audio renders of your ADM file — binaural or a speaker layout — generate PDF reports, and extract raw AXML metadata. These exports let you deliver mixes, document QC findings, share reports with collaborators, and archive metadata for your records.
Export Audio
Open File → Export Audio… (⇧⌘B). It replaces Export Binaural WAV from earlier versions. Each export writes one target:
- Binaural — rendered with Orbit Binaural, the same HRTF processing as binaural monitoring (using whichever HRTF profile is active), or with Apple Spatial Audio.
- Speaker layout (Pro) — 7.1.4, 7.1.2, 7.1, 5.1.4, 5.1.2, 5.1, Quad, 3.1.2, Stereo or Mono.
The other settings:
- Bit depth — 16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float.
- Container — WAV, MOV or MP4. MOV and MP4 can also carry the session's video (Pro). Apple Spatial Audio renders to a stereo WAV only in this release. MP4 can't store sample rates above 65,535 Hz, so export a 96 kHz master as MOV or WAV.
- Range — Entire Project, or Selection (Pro). To use Selection, set a region first with the I / O keys or by ⌥-dragging the waveform in the export window; you can then fine-tune it in the Start and End fields.
- Downmix (Pro) — for Stereo, 5.1 and 5.1.4, fold the bed with your monitoring trims or a custom set made for this export. What you hear while monitoring doesn't change.
- Loudness (Pro) — normalise to a target in LUFS and limit the true peak to a ceiling in dBTP. Orbit measures first, then applies. Not available with Apple Spatial Audio.
TIP
Select your preferred HRTF profile before a binaural export. The render uses the active profile, so switch to the one you want first.
PDF export
Choose File → Export PDF… (⇧⌘E) to open the Export PDF Report window. There is one PDF export; what goes into the report is set by the options on the right. Two preset buttons at the top set those options for you:
- Metadata — the file's structure and metadata only.
- Full — everything, including waveforms and measured loudness. This is also the default.
You can then switch individual sections on or off under Content Sections. See QC PDF Report for the window itself, the live preview and multi-track export.
Metadata
A concise report covering the ADM file's structure and metadata:
- Programme info: Title, duration, channel count, sample rate, bit depth, bed format.
- Content groups: All content groups listed.
- Loudness metadata: Integrated LUFS, loudness range, max true peak, max momentary, max short-term, and dialogue loudness (when present in the ADM).
- Beds: Each bed channel with track index and speaker label.
- Objects: Each object with ID, track index, type, importance, dialogue flag, width, gain, and a summary of position keyframes.
This is a quick way to confirm that the file structure matches delivery notes without generating waveform data.
Full
A comprehensive QC report that adds waveform graphs, spatial automation plots, and measured loudness to the metadata. Orbit runs an offline analysis pass, so export takes a moment — a progress indicator shows each stage.
Everything in the Metadata report, plus:
- Measured Loudness section with Orbit's own ITU-R BS.1770 offline analysis:
- Integrated LUFS, true peak (excl. and incl. LFE), loudness range (LRA), max momentary, max short-term.
- A time-series graph showing momentary and short-term loudness curves, an integrated reference line, and the LRA band — with marker positions overlaid.
- Master waveform: A combined waveform of all audio channels with marker overlays.
- Per-bed waveform graphs: One graph per bed channel showing RMS and peak levels, with speaker labels and time markers.
- Per-object cards: Each object gets its own section with:
- Waveform graph (RMS and peak).
- Position graphs for X, Y, and Z axes showing spatial automation over time.
- Width animation graph (when applicable).
- Metadata summary (importance, dialogue type, gain).
- Any linked marker comments.
- Markers (Pro — the Session markers section): All markers not linked to specific objects are listed in a separate section.
TIP
The Full report is ideal for archiving a full QC record alongside the ADM delivery. The measured loudness section gives you an independent verification of loudness compliance without relying on the ADM's own metadata.
AXML export (Pro)
Choose File → Export AXML… (⇧⌘X) to save the loaded file's raw ADM metadata (the axml chunk) as an XML file. The save dialog has a Pretty-print XML option, on by default. AXML export is available for ADM files only.
IAMF export (Pro)
Choose File → Export as IAMF/Eclipsa Audio… (⌘R) to encode the loaded ADM file to IAMF. It is available for ADM files only — it's disabled when the loaded file is already IAMF. See ADM to IAMF Exporting for the full workflow.
INFO
AXML and IAMF export only appear in the File menu with a Pro licence.
